What is Cave Bluff?

The Escher family purchased the first 50+ acres of Cave Bluff in 1991. It was slated for a road and housing development, but the family had done much hiking and exploring of the bluff over the decades, so they purchased the property to preserve it as open space. In 2016 another 45 acres became available, and that was added. A conservation easement on the property was donated to Groundswell Conservancy (known as Natural Heritage Land Trust at the time) to preserve it forever.

The trails are open for hiking, skiing and snowshoeing. The long-term plan is to restore the various native habitats that originally existed, and to preserve it as an open space where the community can escape to nature.

ALL ACCESS AND ACTIVITIES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK. The property owners and Groundswell are not liable per Wis. Stats. 895.52. Various hazards exist, including rough and steep trails, possible rock falls, falling timber, poisonous plants and animals. Users must be prepared for outdoor activity and accept all risk.
